There are many ways to make sambhar. Instead of always having the regular sambhar with vegetables why not try something different. So here goes the method to make this cabbage balls sambhar.
Ingredients
For making the balls
Cabbage chopped – 1 cup
Chopped Onion – 1/4
Green chilly – 1
Kadalai mavu/Channa flour - 4 tbsp
Salt.
For sambhar
Toor dal – 1/4cup
Chopped Onion – 1
Tomato – 2
Sambhar powder – 1 1/2 tbsp
Drumstick – 6 pieces (Optional) if added gives u a good flavor
Mustard
Cumin
Fenu greek
Salt
Cilantro
Method
1.Cook the toor dal in a pressure cooker and mask it.
2.Heat oil in a pan add the chopped onions , once it is soft add the tomato and cook well. Now add the sambhar powder and cook for 3 mins.
3.Now add enough water and add the drumstick and cook.
4.In the mean time , make the cabbage balls. Roughly chopped the cabbage add the chopped onion and chopped green chilly, cilantro and the channa dal and salt. Mix everything together if needed add some water. It should not be too watery.
5. Now heat oil in a pan, and make lemon size ball from the batter and drop it into the oil and deep fry it. Once it is done drain it and keep aside.
6.Now if the drumstick is done add the mashed dal to it. Allow it to cook for 5 minutes. After that add the cabbage balls into it and cook for another 5 minutes.
7.Now in a pan add a spoon of oil,pop mustard add 1/2 tbsp cumin and 1/2 tbsp fenu greek and chopped shallot onion two and few curry leaves and pour this into the sambhar. Add the chopped Cilantro.
8.Allow to cook for another 3 more minutes now your cabbage balls sambhar is ready to go.
